George Richard Chamberlain came through early stage work and hit as a teen idol on Dr. Kildare from 1961 to 1966. The miniseries era found its anchor in him: Centennial in 1978, Shōgun in 1980, The Thorn Birds in 1983 — the last two especially massive. He played Aramis across three Musketeers films starting in 1973, Allan Quatermain in a pair of mid-'80s adventure pictures, and became the first actor to play Jason Bourne in a 1988 TV movie.
