About this person

Born Ram Kisan Yadav somewhere between 1965 and 1975, he began organizing large yoga camps in 2002 and soon brought the sessions to Indian television. In 2006 he co-founded Patanjali Ayurved and Patanjali Yogpeeth with Balkrishna, building a business around ayurveda and yoga products. By 2011-2012 he had moved into political activism, leading protests against corruption and calling for the return of black money stashed in foreign banks - positions that aligned him with the Bharatiya Janata Party on some issues. His comments on modern medicine and the scope of yoga and ayurveda have drawn criticism. The Indian Express named him the 78th most powerful Indian in April 2022.
