Raj Begum was a Kashmiri playback and folk singer often called the "Nightingale" or "Melody Queen" of Kashmir. She popularised Kashmiri poetic traditions, and received the Padma Shri in 2002 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2013.
