Rainhard Jürgen Fendrich was born 27 February 1955 and rose to become one of the most successful Austropop musicians by writing songs in Viennese German rather than standard German. That choice carved out a loyal following in Austria and Bavaria while limiting his reach elsewhere in the German-speaking world. In 1990 he released "I Am from Austria," a song whose verses are in Viennese German and whose title remains the only English in it. The track caught something in the national mood and never let go. It still plays at gatherings and sporting events, a kind of second anthem that people actually sing.
