Vlad the Impaler's younger brother, who fought on the other side. Radu the Handsome rode with the Ottoman sultan who wanted Wallachia — and in 1462, he won.

Biography

About

Radu was born around 1438, son of Vlad II Dracul and Princess Cneajna of Moldavia, into a family that would splinter across battle lines. He had three brothers: Mircea II, Vlad Călugărul, and Vlad III — the one history would call the Impaler. In 1462, Radu joined Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II in a campaign against his own brother's rule in Wallachia, and together they defeated Vlad III. Radu himself became prince of Wallachia after that victory. He died in January 1475, one ruler in a bloodline where brothers took turns holding and losing the throne.
