Biography

About

Born before AD 50 in Greece, Plutarch lived through the height of Roman imperial power and eventually took Roman citizenship, likely becoming Lucius Mestrius Plutarchus. He served as a priest at the Temple of Apollo in Delphi and worked as a Middle Platonist philosopher, but his lasting mark came through two vast projects. *Parallel Lives* assembled biographies of illustrious Greeks and Romans, setting them side by side to reveal what made them rise or fall. *Moralia* gathered his essays and speeches on ethics, education, and daily life.
