Biography

About

Pittacus was born around 640 BC in Mytilene, the chief city of Lesbos. He rose as a military general in an era when Greek city-states lived and died by the men who could hold their walls. Somewhere in those years of command he earned a reputation not just for tactics but for judgment — the kind that got him named one of the Seven Sages, the ancient world's canonical wise men. He died around 568 BC, his name preserved in a list that outlasted armies.
