Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, commonly referred to simply as Njegoš (Његош), was a Serbian Prince-Bishop (vladika) of Montenegro, poet and philosopher whose works are widely considered some of the most important in Montenegrin and Serbian literature.

Njegoš succeeded his uncle, Petar I, as ruler.
Vukolaj "Vuko" Radonjić, the head of the Radonjić family, was Njegoš's main opponent during his first months in power.
Njegoš forced his mentor Sima Milutinović into exile in 1831, but the two were later reconciled.
