Luke's account of the crucifixion places two thieves on either side of Jesus. One mocked him, demanding proof of divinity through escape. The other rebuked his companion, acknowledged his own guilt, and made a single request: that Jesus remember him when he came into his kingdom. The exchange earned him veneration across Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, and Oriental Orthodox traditions.
