Something wrong? She went from child star in Timbiriche to "The Golden Girl" of Latin pop, then crossed into English-language markets without losing her base. Five US number-ones and fifteen million records later, Paulina Rubio remains the template for how a Mexican pop star scales continents.

Paulina Susana Rubio Dosamantes joined the pop group Timbiriche at eleven in 1982 and stayed through 1991. Her first two solo albums, La Chica Dorada (1992) and 24 Kilates (1993), made her EMI Latin's top-selling Mexican woman. She shifted into dance and electronic territory with El Tiempo Es Oro (1995) and Planeta Paulina (1996), then left EMI and released Paulina (2000) with Universal Latino - critics still call it her best, and it made her the best-selling Latin artist of 2001 on Billboard's year-end tally. Border Girl (2002) and Pau-Latina (2004) brought Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations; Ananda (2006), Gran City Pop (2009), and the EDM-leaning Brava! (2011) kept her atop the charts. By the 2010s she was coaching on La Voz in Mexico, Spain, and the US version of The X Factor. Forbes named her one of Mexico's fifty most powerful women in 2012 and 2013.
