Adolf Hitler's younger sister lived quietly under assumed names, her existence shaped entirely by proximity to a brother whose crimes defined the twentieth century.
Born 21 January 1896, Paula was the last child of Alois Hitler and Klara Pölzl. She grew up in the shadow of her older brother, a relationship that would eventually force her into obscurity. After 1945 she lived under the names Paula Wolff and Paula Hitler-Wolff, her identity subsumed by the necessity of distance from a surname that had become synonymous with atrocity. She died 1 June 1960, having spent her final years as a footnote to history's darkest chapter.
