Born June 22, 1988, Casspi grew up in Israel and landed with the Sacramento Kings as the 23rd pick in the 2009 draft. His debut that year made him the first Israeli to play in an NBA game, and as a rookie he earned a spot in the All-Star Weekend Rookie Challenge. Cleveland traded for him in June 2011, then he signed with Houston in July 2013. A three-team deal sent him to New Orleans in July 2014, but the Pelicans waived him and he returned to Sacramento for the 2014-15 season. In February 2017 he was traded again to New Orleans alongside DeMarcus Cousins, signed with Golden State that summer, and after an April injury was waived and picked up by Memphis in July 2018. He played both small forward and power forward across nine seasons, a journeyman who opened the door.
