Nikolay Dmitrievich Kovalyov was a Russian politician. Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th convocations (1999-2019), where he chaired the Duma's Veterans' Committee. Kovalyov was the Director of the FSB from July 1996 to July 1998, when he was succeeded by Vladimir Putin.
