Nathan Fielder turned business school and an excruciating sense of social discomfort into a genre of its own - a kind of comedy where the cringe is so carefully engineered you can't tell if you're watching a parody or a document of actual human desperation.

About this person
Born May 12, 1983, Fielder grew up doing improv in the same Canadian high school group as Seth Rogen, then studied business at the University of Victoria - a degree that would later become the backbone of his work. After a comedy course at Humber College, he spent 2008-2009 as a correspondent on CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes and wrote for Demetri Martin's sketch show in 2011. In 2013 he launched Nathan for You on Comedy Central, a parody reality series where he played a slightly more awkward version of himself advising failing businesses; the show ran until 2017 and became a cult object. He executive produced How To with John Wilson for HBO, then created The Rehearsal in 2022, a docu-comedy that pushed the reality-fiction blur even further. In 2023 he co-created and starred in The Curse with Benny Safdie and Emma Stone, his first scripted series, and that same year Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
