5th King of Joseon Dynasty in Korean history
A crown prince who waited decades while his father revolutionized Korea, only to die two years into his own reign—leaving a young son who would be deposed and killed.
Born 15 November 1414, Yi Hyang was the eldest son of Sejong the Great, the king who created the Korean alphabet and presided over Joseon's golden age. He ascended as Munjong, the dynasty's fifth monarch, but ruled only from 1450 until his death on 10 June 1452. His brief time on the throne left the succession to his young son Danjong, whose minority and eventual overthrow would haunt the dynasty for generations.
