Last remaining survivor of Titanic disaster
She was two months old when the Titanic went down, and she lived long enough to become the last person on earth who had been there.
Eliza Gladys Dean was born on 2 February 1912 and boarded the RMS Titanic that April as its youngest passenger. The ship sank on 15 April when she was still an infant. She survived, built a quiet life as a civil servant and cartographer, and carried that night as a fact rather than a memory. By the time she died on 31 May 2009, everyone else who had been aboard was gone, and the last living link to the ship went with her.
