Turkish diplomat, statesperson and writer (1883–1952)
Memduh Şevket Esendal was a Turkish writer, diplomat and politician. As the author of three novels and numerous short stories and narratives, he is one of the most important authors in Turkish literature in the first half of the 20th century. During his lifetime, he was best known for his political offices as Turkish ambassador to Baku, Tehran, and Kabul, and as secretary-general of the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP).
