Matthew Robert Patrick launched Game Theory in the early 2010s, applying math and science to questions no one knew they had about video games. The formula worked: he expanded into Film Theory, Food Theory, and Style Theory, narrating most of the videos himself and racking up over ten billion views across five channels. He hosted YouTube Premium's MatPat's Game Lab and the 2023 Streamy Awards while the subscriber count climbed past 40 million. In March 2024 he stepped back as regular host, lingering on GTLive until October. By June 2025 he'd pivoted to Washington, helping establish the Creator Economy Caucus in the House of Representatives.
