About this person
Joseph was born in 1962 or 1963 and took the helm of the Bureau des Avocats Internationaux in Port-au-Prince in 1996. The BAI became the go-to for clients the system had no use for: political detainees, entire communities living in poverty, people broken by political violence. By 2006, The New York Times had named him Haiti's most prominent human rights lawyer. He kept at it until his death on 31 March 2025, nearly thirty years in the same chair, in the same fight.
