About

Born Margarete on 25 December 1584, an Austrian archduchess who married King Philip III, making her Queen of Spain and Portugal when the Habsburg domains stretched across continents. Her reign spanned the early seventeenth century, a period when the Spanish crown still commanded global reach. She died on 3 October 1611, eleven years into her queenship, before turning twenty-seven.
