Maratha noble (1693-1766)
Malhar Rao Holkar was a noble subedar of the Maratha Empire and the first Ruler of Indore from 1732 until his death in 1766. He was one of the early officers along with Ranoji Scindia (Shinde), appointed by shrimant Peshwa Bajirao prime minister of maratha empire Bajirao I to help spread the Maratha rule to northern states and was given the estate of Indore to rule. He was founder of the Holkar dynasty that ruled Malwa.
