Born February 28, 1999, in Slovenia, Dončić came up through Union Olimpija's youth ranks before joining Real Madrid's academy, where he became the youngest senior-team debutant in club history at 16. A year later, at 17, he suited up for Slovenia's national team, then led the country to its first EuroBasket title in 2017. In 2018 he carried Madrid to the EuroLeague championship, collecting MVP honors and a stack of rising-star awards before the Atlanta Hawks drafted him third overall and immediately flipped him to Dallas. He won Rookie of the Year unanimously in 2018-19, made six straight All-Star teams, and in 2023-24 led the NBA in scoring at 33.9 points per game while pushing the Mavericks to the Finals, where Boston closed them out in five. Midway through 2024-25 came the trade that stopped the sports world - a controversial blockbuster that landed him with the Lakers. The next season he led the league in scoring again, averaging 33.5, and now ranks seventh all-time in career triple-doubles, the Slovenian wunderkind still writing new chapters at an age when most stars are only beginning to peak.
