Luis de Onís y González-Vara

Luis de Onís y González-Vara was a Spanish career diplomat who served as Spain's envoy to the United States from 1809 to 1819, and co-negotiated the Adams–Onís Treaty with United States Secretary of State John Quincy Adams, by which Spain ceded Florida to the United States, the United States renounced its claims to Texas, and a transcontinental boundary was defined to the Pacific Ocean.
