About this person

Born in Buenos Aires in 1950, Spinetta founded Almendra, then Pescado Rabioso, Invisible, Spinetta Jade, and Spinetta y Los Socios del Desierto - each one an upheaval, each one iconic. He wove Rimbaud, Van Gogh, Jung, Freud, Nietzsche, Foucault, Deleuze, Castañeda, and Artaud into his lyrics; the 1973 album Artaud carries that last name as its title. He gave himself entirely to his own music, never stepping sideways. In December 2011 he announced lung cancer. He died two months later, 62, and his ashes went into the Río de la Plata as he had asked.
