Prince of France (1781-1789)
He was born to inherit the throne of France, but tuberculosis killed him at seven — two months before the Bastille fell and three years before his parents met the guillotine.
Louis Joseph Xavier François was born on 22 October 1781, the second child and first son of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. As heir to the French crown, he carried the title Dauphin and the designation fils de France from birth. He died on 4 June 1789, aged seven, from tuberculosis. His four-year-old brother Louis Charles inherited the title and the line of succession in a kingdom that would not survive the summer.
