Risa Oribe grew up in Seki, Gifu, chasing music early enough to front an indie band called Chucky before it folded in 2008. She moved to Tokyo and caught her break in 2010 singing for Girls Dead Monster, a fictional group inside the anime Angel Beats! - performing songs that existed only within the show's world. The following April she released her first solo mini-album, Letters to U, and began the run that would define her: "Oath Sign" for Fate/Zero went gold, "Crossing Field" for Sword Art Online went platinum, and her singles became fixtures in the Oricon top ten. By 2014 she was playing the Budokan. The Demon Slayer themes cemented her as the go-to voice for anime's most-watched moments, and she became a regular at Animelo Summer Live and Anime Festival Asia, carrying songs written for fictional bands into real sold-out rooms.
