American politician
Lewis Winans Ross was an American attorney, merchant, and politician. He served two non-consecutive terms on the Illinois House of Representatives from 1840 to 1842 and 1844 to 1846, and was U.S. Representative from Illinois's 9th congressional district between 1863 and 1869. He was widely known as an antiwar Peace Democrat or Copperhead during the American Civil War.
