When injury ended Beenhakker's amateur playing days at 19, he pivoted to the touchline and never looked back. He claimed the Eredivisie twice with Ajax and once with Feyenoord, a feat no one else has matched across that bitter rivalry. Spain gave him his nickname: as Real Madrid manager in the late 1980s, he delivered three consecutive La Liga titles, one paired with the Copa del Rey. His international portfolio stretched wider still - he took the Netherlands to the 1990 World Cup, then led Trinidad and Tobago and Poland to their first-ever major tournaments in 2006 and 2008. Beenhakker died in April 2025, having spent six decades turning clubs and countries into contenders.
