About

Born in Warsaw in 1949, Lech Kaczyński appeared as a child actor in a 1962 Polish film with his identical twin Jarosław before turning to law. During the communist era he joined the Workers' Defence Committee and became an adviser to Solidarity during the Gdańsk Shipyard strikes in 1980, then was interned under martial law as an "anti-socialist element." After communism fell he served as senator, then security minister under Lech Wałęsa until being fired in 1992 over a government dispute.
