Kawila, also known as Phra Boromrachathibodi, was a Northern Thai ruler and the first monarch of Chiang Mai of the Chet Ton (Thipchakrathiwong) dynasty, and the leader of the restored polity in Lanna.

Prince Sura Singhanat (formerly Chaophraya Surasi), younger brother of King Rama I (formerly Chaophraya Chakri) and brother-in-law of Kawila, led the Siamese armies to aid Kawila in the north three times in 1787, 1797 and 1802.
The Burmese attacked Chiang Mai in 1797 and 1802, in which Bangkokian relief forces came to aid Chiang Mai in 1798 and 1803.
