Jonathan Vincent Voight was born December 29, 1938, and became associated with the angst of the late 1960s counterculture through roles like Joe Buck, the would-be gigolo in Midnight Cowboy (1969), which earned him his first Oscar nomination. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1978 for Coming Home, playing a paraplegic Vietnam veteran, and collected two more nominations for the ruthless bank robber in Runaway Train (1985) and sportscaster Howard Cosell in Ali (2001).
