Jon Voight

Jonathan Vincent Voight was born December 29, 1938, and became associated with the angst of the late 1960s counterculture through roles like Joe Buck, the would-be gigolo in Midnight Cowboy (1969), which earned him his first Oscar nomination. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1978 for Coming Home, playing a paraplegic Vietnam veteran, and collected two more nominations for the ruthless bank robber in Runaway Train (1985) and sportscaster Howard Cosell in Ali (2001). The range widened: Deliverance in 1972, The Champ in 1979, then a long stretch through Heat, Mission: Impossible, Pearl Harbor, Zoolander, the National Treasure films, and Transformers. Television brought a fourth Golden Globe in 2014 for Ray Donovan, where he played Mickey Donovan across seven seasons. Once aligned with liberal views, he shifted in later years to outspoken conservatism and religious belief, and he is the father of Angelina Jolie and James Haven.
