John X. Merriman

John Xavier Merriman was a South African politician who served as the eleventh Prime Minister of the Cape Colony from 1908 to 1910. He was the last prime minister of the Cape Colony before the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910. During his political career he became the longest-serving member of the Parliament of the Cape of Good Hope, serving a total of 42 years as member of Aliwal North, Wodehouse, Namaqualand, and Victoria West between 1869 and 1910.
