A member of the Democratic Party, Carney previously served as the 74th governor of Delaware from 2017 to 2025, the U.S. representative for Delaware's at-large congressional district from 2011 to 2017, the 24th lieutenant governor of Delaware from 2001 to 2009, and Delaware's secretary of finance from 1996 to 2000.
