About

Joachim Peiper served as Heinrich Himmler's personal adjutant during the Holocaust, witnessing the genocide of Jews in Eastern Europe — facts he later denied. As a commander in the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, he led Kampfgruppe Peiper through Kharkov and the Battle of the Bulge, where his unit became notorious for killing civilians and prisoners of war. A US military tribunal convicted him of command responsibility for the 1944 Malmedy massacre and sentenced him to death, later commuted to 35 years; he was released and found work at Porsche and Volkswagen, then moved…
