Elector of Brandenburg
He governed Brandenburg for a decade at the turn of the seventeenth century — a Hohenzollern elector whose reign bridged the late Renaissance and the gathering storms that would soon engulf central Europe.
Born on 27 January 1546 into the House of Hohenzollern, Joachim Frederick inherited the electoral dignity of Brandenburg in 1598, assuming control of one of the Holy Roman Empire's most significant territories. He ruled the margraviate through a period of relative calm before the continent's religious and dynastic tensions would explode. His electorate lasted a decade, ending with his death on 18 July 1608.
