Lee's 1991 X-Men #1 sold more copies than any comic book in history - a Guinness record built on a kinetic, hyper-detailed style that reshaped the look of superhero art for a generation and now defines DC Comics from the publisher's chair.

About this person

Born in Korea in 1964, Lee started at Marvel in 1987 drawing Alpha Flight and Punisher before landing The Uncanny X-Men, where he co-created Gambit with Chris Claremont and refined the clean-line dynamism that made X-Men #1 a record-breaker. In 1992 he co-founded Image Comics and launched WildStorm Productions, publishing WildC.A.T.s and Gen13 until he sold the imprint to DC in 1998 to focus on drawing again. He illustrated Batman: Hush, Superman: For Tomorrow, and the New 52 Justice League while steering WildStorm as a DC imprint through 2010. DC named him co-publisher in 2010, chief creative officer in 2018, and sole publisher in 2020 - a climb from penciler to the top of the industry he once broke open.
