About this person
Jeremy Ashkenas built tools that shaped how millions wrote code - CoffeeScript and LiveScript as languages, Backbone.js and Underscore.js as the scaffolding beneath early interactive web apps. While working in the graphics department at The New York Times, he shared the 2015 Gerald Loeb Award for Images/Graphics/Interactives. He moved to Observable, Inc., then Substack Inc. as of 2020. In June 2022 he returned to the Times as Director of Graphics for Opinion, closing a loop between code and storytelling.
