About this person
Jehu was the tenth king of the northern Kingdom of Israel, son of Jehoshaphat and grandson of Nimshi. He ruled from roughly 842 to 815 BCE, a reign that lasted 28 years. The defining act: he exterminated the house of Ahab, wiping out the previous dynasty. The principal record of these events survives in 2 Kings. What followed the purge was decades on the throne, power secured by the blade that won it.
