Jeffrey Dahmer murdered seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991, drugging and killing them in his Milwaukee apartment. The case remains among the most scrutinized in American criminal history because of the necrophilia and cannibalism documented at trial.

Dahmer killed his first victim in Ohio in 1978, then went silent for nine years. He resumed in 1987, developing a pattern: lure men to his Wisconsin apartment, drug them, sexually assault them, kill them. Many of the later murders involved necrophilia, cannibalism, and the preservation of skeletal remains. An intended victim escaped in 1991 and led police back to the apartment. Dahmer was diagnosed with borderline and schizotypal personality disorders and a psychotic disorder, but ruled legally sane. He was convicted of sixteen murders and sentenced to life without parole in 1992. Two years later, he was beaten to death by a fellow inmate at Columbia Correctional Institution.
