Jane Hawking

Jane Beryl Wilde was born 29 March 1944 in England. She married Stephen Hawking in 1965, when he was a young physicist with a devastating diagnosis and she was a language student who chose him anyway. The marriage lasted 30 years, through his rise to scientific celebrity and her quiet work as an author and teacher. They divorced in 1995. She has since written about those years without sentiment, mapping the human price of living beside genius and fame.
