American lawyer and politician, Wisconsin (1824-1878)
James Sproat Brown was an American lawyer, Democratic politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He was the first Attorney General of Wisconsin (1848–1850), the 13th mayor of Milwaukee (1861–1862), and represented Wisconsin's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 38th Congress (1863–1865).
