Mukhi served as the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 2016 to 2017, Minister of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation and Higher Education, Government of Delhi in the Swaraj ministry from 1998 to 1998 representing Janakpuri Assembly constituency in the Delhi Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 2015.
