Born Chan Kong-sang on 7 April 1954, he was trained in acrobatics and martial arts at the China Drama Academy as one of the Seven Little Fortunes, then entered Hong Kong film as a stuntman. His breakthrough came with Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (1978) and Drunken Master (1978), action comedies that paired kung fu with physical humor. He directed The Fearless Hyena (1979) and through the 1980s starred alongside Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao as part of the "Three Dragons." Project A (1983) launched the Jackie Chan Stunt Team and locked in his signature: elaborate, self-performed stunts mixed with martial arts and comedy, refined in Police Story (1985). Rumble in the Bronx (1995) brought him to North America; Rush Hour (1998) made him a Hollywood fixture. He's worked both sides of the Pacific since, voicing characters in Kung Fu Panda and Mulan, playing Mr. Han in two Karate Kid films, and earning two Guinness World Records for CZ12 (2012). His films have grossed over $6 billion worldwide, and in 2016 he received an honorary Academy Award.
