Born 12 April 1967, Marant launched her eponymous line and quickly racked up the hardware - the Award de la Mode in 1997, the Whirlpool Award for best female designer in 1998. Her aesthetic, equal parts boho ease and studied nonchalance, became the uniform of a certain kind of famous woman: Alexa Chung, Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller. By 2012 she was Fashion Designer of the Year at British Glamour's Women of the Year Awards; in 2014, Elle named her Contemporary Designer of the Year. The 2013 H&M drop turned hype into hard proof - the collection vanished in three-quarters of an hour, demand so fierce it broke the internet before breaking the internet was a tired phrase.
