From the Coudenhove-Kalergi family, she was the daughter, one of the seven children, of Count Heinrich von Coudenhove-Kalergi and his Japanese wife Mitsuko Aoyama. Bishop Erik Varden described her as "one of the seminal Catholic thinkers of the twentieth century."
