German fashion designer (1885-1948)
The fashion house carries the name of a Nazi Party member whose factory used forced labor to produce SS and Wehrmacht uniforms during the Second World War.
Hugo Ferdinand Boss was born 8 July 1885 in Germany and built a clothing business that would outlive him by decades. He joined the Nazi Party in 1931 and stayed in until the regime fell. During the war his company drew workers from occupied territories and POW camps to manufacture military uniforms for the Schutzstaffel and Wehrmacht. He died 9 August 1948. The brand that bears his name became a global fashion house long after his death.
