Union United States Army officer and abolitionist (1829–1863)
Hans Christian Heg was a Norwegian American journalist, anti-slavery activist, politician, and soldier. He was best known for leading the 15th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment on the Union side in the American Civil War; he died of wounds he received at the Battle of Chickamauga. He previously held elected office as the 6th prison commissioner of Wisconsin (1860–1862).
