About this person

Greysia Polii picked up a racket in Jakarta with Jaya Raya and made the Indonesian national team in 2003 at 16. Early success came with Jo Novita - a Grand Prix title, medals at the 2005 and 2007 SEA Games - but the Olympic podium stayed out of reach through London 2012. A new partnership with Nitya Krishinda Maheswari brought two Superseries titles and gold at the 2014 Asian Games, plus three World Championship bronzes between 2015 and 2019, and still no Olympic medal through Rio 2016. In 2017 she paired with the younger Apriyani Rahayu. They took gold at the 2019 SEA Games, won their first title on home soil at the 2020 Indonesia Masters, and then in Tokyo delivered the country's first Olympic gold in women's doubles. Polii also served two terms on the BWF Athletes' Commission, representing players to the sport's governing body from 2013 to 2017 and again from 2021 to 2025.
