Roman Emperor
Roman emperor for 22 days in 238 AD — the second-shortest reign in imperial history. He and his son were swept into a rebellion against Maximinus Thrax, lost, and both died within three weeks of taking power.
Born around 158, Marcus Antonius Gordianus Sempronianus Romanus lived a long life before the throne found him at eighty. In 238 — the Year of the Six Emperors — he and his son Gordian II were pulled into an uprising against Maximinus Thrax. They ruled together for 22 days. Battle went badly. His son died first. Gordian I followed him by his own hand in April 238.
