José Gerardo Barrios Espinoza was a Salvadoran statesman and military officer who served as the 10th President of El Salvador from 1859 to 1863. A central figure in Central American Liberalism, he is revered as a national hero for his efforts to modernize Salvadoran society, secularize the state, and promote the coffee industry.
